The new Salmon Wings Sky GTX walking boots has won an Editors Choice Award from US outdoor mag Backpacker.
Magazine editor Steve Howe was enthusiastic in his review of the new Salmon Wings Sky GTX, complimenting Salomon’s latest top of the line backpacking boot as flexible, supportive and good looking.
Hoew described the Salmon Wings Sky as a hybrid runner hiking boot due to its running shoe sole package with a lot of air cushion and eva foam support before commenting on its flexible forefoot.
However, there is plenty of torsion rigidity for edging on gravel and the rear heel pad isn’t hard enough to cause blisters. Meanwhile the midfoot sectrion is narrow with a nice high arch to provide plenty of underfoot support for walking with heavy loads.
He went on to descrive the Salmon Wings Sky GTX as one of his favourite types of footwear because it’s so versatile and even suggested taking it trail running for people with weak angles.
Overall Salmon’s Wings Sky GTX boot is suitable for a wide range of people. Great for long distance back packing, even on rough terrain and provides plenty of underfoot protection so that rocks won’t inflict stone bruises on your feet. He also laced them up tight for almost ski boot like support.
“Lots to like and not much to object to”, he concluded.

Salomon has revealed their upcoming Salomon XR Crossmax trail shoe at an exclusive event in Annecy, France.
At the moment there are two main ranges of Salomon trail running shoes: Salomon XA which is designed for extreme trail running and light hiking and Salomon XT which is for general trail running and maybe a bit of walking.
The Salomon XR Crossmax is the first of a new range designed for running a few miles of road to get to the trails. Any off road runner will tell you how tough it is to get across the tarmac in a pair of trail running shoes or running comfortably on the roads in a pair of running trainers, then sliding all over the place once they get off road.
So, Salomon have created a hybrid shoe that can do both in their Salomon XR Crossmax range. In fact, Salomon are predicting that this will be the next big area of growth in running and not just dedicated trail running.
While other leading trail running brands focus on a neutral set up for their shoes, XR Crossmax comes in neutral and support models for runners with different pronations.
The Salomon XR Crossmax uppers are likely to get the most attention from a technical aspect and are made from a flexible material that includes a honeycomb fabric that’s very similar to their new line of Exo compression apparel to offer a snugger fit around the foot.
Trail runners who got the chance to try out the Salomon XR Crossmax for themselves reported that the shoes were extremely lightweight with an aggressive grip that’s superb on rocks, roots and wet, slippery surfaces in general while offering plenty of support and cushionin for running on the roads.
The XR Crossmax is a new angle for Salomon as a trail running brand, offering a shoe that can provides the perfect transition from road to trail. But most importantly it doesn’t just get you to the trail, it takes you through it with plenty of grip, providing the missing link for people who run a short distance on the road to get on the trail.
Having to run the roads is a common complaint, so it’s suprising that no one has addressed this issue sooner with a suitable shoe. But Salomon seem to have got their first with the Crossmax.

The Salomon RX range is a RelaXation and recovery shoe, ideal before and after sports to give your feet a rest and keep them in perfect comfort. The pale aqua blue styles for women are the most popular for this season, which will be boosted with an all black model in early 2011.
