To kick start the latest Reebok marketing campaign, Ryan Giggs will be endorsing the latest RunTone trainers.
Last month we saw Thierry Henry wearing the whacky Reebok ZigTech energy transfer trainers while earlier in the year Kelly Brook was promoting the growing range of Reebok EasyTones shoes. So it’s certainly full steam ahead for Reebok’s celebrity marketing!
The Reebok RunTones are a redesign of the best selling Reebok EasyTone in that they promote better health by working key leg and core muscles harder when walking or running. And the most important feature of the RunTone is that it can be used for running while the more fashion focussed EasyTone was more heavily targetted towards women who would be walking.
Reebok isn’t the first manufacturer to bring toning shoes to a male market. However, as a recognised sports brand with a focus on performance and celebrity endorsement, Reebok may bring the concept of exercise shoes and toning trainers to men with some success.
With the football Premier League just around the corner, BBC Sports Personality of the Year Ryan Giggs has been using his own RunTones to get the most out of training.
With Reebok ZigTech endorsed by Thierry Henry, Reebok EasyTone endorsed by Kelly Brook and now Reebok RunTone endorsed by Ryan Giggs, Reebok has put together an all-start cast for their marketing campaign. Stay tuned for more on the latest Reebok news as it breaks.
In the meantime, you can check out our full range of toning shoes, sandals and trainers here: http://www.fitnessfootwear.com/s-360-toning.aspx

Reebok ZigTech trainers have been launched by Thierry Henry and Lewis Hamilton in the ultimate physical duel to champion the performance of ZigTech technology.
Although the campaign for Reebok ZigTech began back in March for the US, ZigTech running shoes are about to hit the UK with a marketing campaign endorsed by Stevenage born Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton and French footballer Thierry Henry.
After a rapid workout challenge across a diverse obstacle course between Henry and Hamilton, journalists put on a pair of Reebok ZigTech trainers and were split into two teams to try the ZigTechnology for themselves.
Reebok ZigTech trainers feature a unique ZigTech sole unit made up of ‘zigs’ which transfer energy through the foot, channelling the power generated at heetlstrike and providing it at toe off to propel the wearer forward. They’re also incredibly well cushioned and the combination of shock absorption and forward propulsion allows athletes to train harder and faster for longer with reduced risk of injury.
For many people Reebok ZigTech could be an excellent addition to their training sessions, allowing them to work their muscles harder for a more rewarding workout.
Here at FitnessFootwear.com we can’t wait to try a pair for ourselves!

On March 11th, the United States saw the launch of the Reebok ZigTech, with a revolutionary new energy return design. The wacky design is certainly an eye catcher, with a bizarre chunky zig sole offering one of the most radically different shoes you are likely to see. The aim of the shoe is to allow athletes to train for longer with reduced change of injury.
NFL star Peyton Manning points out. “Wearing ZigTechs give players a bounce, an energy that lets us train longer with less strain on key leg muscles, like shins.” This ultimately enables athletes to stay healthier during the season.
The Reebok ZigTech allows longer training sessions which target other core muscle groups in the body, whilst saving the legs and shins from heavy impact, leaving athletes prone to injury. By saving energy in the lower body, cardiovascular exercise can be increased to boost overall fitness without placing too much strain on the legs, which up until the launch of Reebok ZigTech trainers, had a pretty hard time of it. It’s not just Peyton who has been working less, whilst working harder, with many American professional athletes adopting the shoes for their training sessions. Meanwhile Thierry Henry and Lewis Hamilton will endorse the Reebok ZigTech range here in the UK and Europe.
As you would imagine, the secret of the shoes lies in the innovative outsole. Conventional trainers concentrate solely on cushioning the vertical force of the heel strike, absorbing the energy and cushioning the joints. The Reebok ZigTech uses that energy and transfers it horizontally. As the heel strikes, the force is absorbed, and the zigzag sole transfers the energy from the heel through to the toe, with the athlete riding the wave of energy as it propels them forward returning it to the forefoot propelling the body forward. By running in Reebok ZigTechs, athletes ease the strain on the core muscle groups in the legs such as the hamstrings and the shins. The shoes have been reported to offer an energy saving of 20% compared to conventional training shoes, extending the training session for a more comprehensive cardiovascular workout. If you hit the running machine at the gym, and keep going until your legs are screaming in agony, you will be able to clock up many more miles and boost your overall fitness with a pair of Reebok ZigTech shoes on your feet.
The ultra lightweight uppers are highly breathable with an ultra thin mesh construction, reinforced with synthetic leather panels to add robustness without adding much in the way of weight. The foam is lightweight too, offering one of the lightest trainers ever produced, certainly the lightest to come from Reebok. As Reebok put it, the ZigTech is like “an energy drink for your feet”, letting you train for longer, keeping muscle fatigue at bay.
If the trials in the States are anything to go by, they are sure to be another huge hit for Reebok. It has taken a little while for the shoes to return to their native land; however the good news for us Brits is the Reebok ZigTech will soon be arriving at FitnessFootwear!
Watch this space for details of the release date in the UK, and get your order in quickly – they are sure to fly, or should we say, float, off the shelves in record time. For more information about Reebok ZigTech trainers, visit: http://www.fitnessfootwear.com/c-451-reebok-zigtech.aspx

The Reebok EasyTone has been a huge success story, with women up and down the country enamoured by its great looks and even better bum toning and leg firming properties. Designed to turn walking and everyday activities into a toning session, the EasyTone took exercise out of the gym and allowed women to improve the shape of their bodies without any extra effort.
Whilst EasyTones give a workout whilst you walk, Reebok toning shoes have now been redeveloped to cope with more strenuous exercise and turbo charge all exercise routines, making them the most flexible and versatile toning shoes on the market. The recent release of Reebok RunTone trainers has added the option to increase cardiovascular work whilst still boosting toning to the calves, hamstrings, quads and buttocks. Designed for a faster pace, RunTone trainers improve stability and beef up the instability pads to better cope with the increased forces at play when moving at pace.
However Reebok have not been content with walking and running, and are now determined to get everyone back in the gym again. The latest toning shoe designs are aimed at aerobics and gym fanatics, who want to carry on with more energetic exercises, whilst getting the al important 28% more toning to the lower body, without having to leave the gym.
Reebok have now released the TrainTone, an intermediate model between the RunTone and the EasyTone, with reduced instability pads offering a shallower and lower profile design, better suited to gym sessions. Whilst the EasyTone added the instability, the TrainTone reduces it, improving balance without losing the benefits to body tone.
Reebok TrainTone trainers feature two instability pods located under the heel and the ball of the foot, which introduce micro-instabilities when training to boost the toning power of any exercise you take. More stable that the EasyTone, they are better suited to energetic gym sessions and are perfectly suited for the treadmill, stepper, and even free weight training.
If you want to hit the running machine, go to an aerobics session, take a Pilates class or even tone more with Yoga, these are the only toning shoes on the market which will allow you to increase the exercise whilst not running the risk of injury. Reebok have released the latest toning shoe style in a red rose and white colour scheme, which matches the great feminine look of the EasyTone range which won many women over to the Reebok ReeTone way of exercising. With the increased versatility they are sure to be as big a success story as the other styles in the range and if you want to get the maximum possible value from your exercise and toning session, then you’ll need a pair of Reebok TrainTone trainers on your feet.
Unfortunately for the men, Reebok TrainTones are only available in a women’s model initially, however with only a few weeks elapsed since the release of the Men’s RunTone trainer, the men have plenty to be getting to grips with for the time being.

Walking and toning has gone hand in hand for some time now. But what about running and toning? All of the toning shoes on the market are designed for walking rather than running, so until now you will no doubt have accepted the fact that all of the burn has to come from effort alone.
However there is good news for those who like to move at a faster pace. Reebok have finally released a toning shoe model which is specifically geared for running. Reebok RunTone trainers offer the chance to increase strength and stamina and tone the muscles in the lower body in the fastest possible timeframe. Reebok RunTone trainers are expected to become as big a success story as the Easytone range was on its release earlier this year.
Reebok RunTone trainers feature the same instability pods as the Easytone, however instead of a pod on the heel and ball of the foot, Reebok have split their muscle activating pods into six, with five located on the heel and one in the forefoot. By reducing the size of each pod, stability is greatly improved making them much safer to use for running and jogging. Due to the increased forces which come into play when running, Reebok have also increased the cushioning in the midsole to reduce the shockwaves generated when running, absorbing the force of a heavier heel strike.
RunTone trainers include MX Shear cushioning panels which reduce the stresses placed on the heels when running and a MEVA midsole has been inserted for greater shock absorption. The shoes allow for orthotic insoles to be used, with a removable sockliner, and comfort is assured with their popular SmoothFit system which removes all of the seams from the inside of the shoe, eliminating all potential sources of abrasion.
Naturally, it’s not just the women who should benefit from a boost to toning, and the latest range includes toning shoes for men. Men’s RunTone trainers are a great way of building up strength in the calves, hamstrings and quads. Whilst you may think that sitting in a car all day doesn’t require a great deal of stamina, it does in Formula 1, and being at the peak of physical fitness can make all of the difference in a race. It should be no surprise therefore that Lewis Hamilton has been spotted sporting a pair of RunTone shoes. They are the perfect partner on long runs and can make a huge difference to a workout regime, helping to boost fitness, improve lower body strength and boost all important stamina.
With the summer now here, if you want to have a last ditch push to get your body in shape, want to get fitter in less time, or want to have legs like Lewis, then these are the trainers to buy. They are the only toning shoes on the market which are recommended for running and jogging, and they are even suitable for the gym. They are sure to be as big a success story as the Reebok EasyTone!

In a speech to investors this week, the vice president of Nike’s global and merchandising department, Eric Spruce ended his investor’s speech with a jibe about the new toning trainers craze which is sweeping the globe.
“Wouldn’t it be great if we could make a pair of shoes that made your butt smaller, made my gut look smaller, make your muscles look a little bit bigger, just by putting them on and wearing them around and walking in them?” said Sprunk, “Nobody can do that. I was just teasing.” He concluded.
The mocking of toning shoes was no doubt a jab in response to a significant loss of Nike’s market share in the women’s trainer market and Nikes decision to stay out of the niche. However the rapid rise in popularity has seen the Reebok division of Adidas AG enjoy a doubling of their market share, with Skechers U.S.A. Inc significantly increase their slice of the pie, both at the expense of Nike.
While Nike is still undoubtedly the leading brand with a 31% share of the market, this has slipped 7.2% in the first quarter to revenue of just over $412 million, according to figures released by SportsOneSource and featured in the July issue of Businessweek.
The launch and massive publicity campaign of the Reebok Easytone trainer has seen their share of the market increase to 6.7%, and Skechers have enjoyed and increase to 17% thanks to their line of toning shoes and sandals; Shape Ups and Tone Ups bringing their total to $225.7 million.
Nike are certainly feeling the pinch, and their decision to stand by and watch the craze die down appears to have been a costly one and will leave them playing catch up in a market which shows no sign of letting up.
“Nike spent months watching this thing develop and did nothing about it and now they are paying the price of a missed opportunity,” said one retail analyst at at SportsOneSource.
Whilst Nike clearly is disagreeing with the toning effects which the shoes and sandals claim to offer, there is no refuting the increase in muscle activity which the shoes bring about. Toning shoes are designed to mimic the benefits of walking in soft sand, which provides greater stimulation to the muscles in the legs, bottom, lower back and abdomen. Both companies have commissioned studies to be conducted on the effect of the shoes, to offer facts and figures to support their claims.
Each of the two major players have targeted slightly different niches within the toning shoe market. Reebok have aimed their campaign at women under 40, offering a replacement trainer for a walking workout, which can also be used for jogging and a more active exercise plan. The Reebok Easytone trainer increase the muscle activity in the bottom by up to 28% with 11% increases in the hamstrings and calves.
Skechers Shape Ups use a curved sole design which rolls the foot from heel to toe and offers enhanced health benefits, improving blood circulation and easing the pressures on the joints whilst helping to tone the back and abdomen.
Meanwhile there was no mention of Marcia Kilgore’s FitFlop sandals.
Many podiatrists are consulted by clients regarding the effects of toning shoes. John Pagliano, a podiatrist from Long Beach, California, claims to get several clients a day enquiring about the benefits. The athletic injury specialist says “I say I’m not really sure, and I haven’t been convinced by the studies,” when asked about the toning benefits which the shoes offer, although user reviews suggest that the difference is clearly felt by women.
Out of the top ten biggest selling athletic shoes in the US, six are toning shoe brands with Shape ups having 4 models, Reebok 2 and reducing Nike’s to just 4 shoes. The toning shoe market share in the US has increased 8-fold in the last year rising from $17 million in 2008 to $145 million for 2009, with both of Nike’s rivals releasing their models to the market.
However this year, in the first quarter alone the revenue has risen to $252 million, representing three quarters of last year’s annual total in just 4 months. The figures are astounding, with Reebok expecting to top 5 million pairs sold in 2010. “The explosion of growth in this space in such a short period of time eclipses everything I have witnessed in the industry over the last 25 years,” claims Herbert Hainer, CEO of Herzogenaurach, the German arm of Adidas.
This year it would appear that Nike cannot afford to stay out of the market any longer, and the world’s largest trainer manufacturer is planning to take back some of its share with their line of NIKE FREE, which it has offered for the past 5 years. The shoes offer many of the benefits of barefoot running and whilst they do not claim that the shoes increase muscle tone and make your legs look better, they do say that they help strengthen the muscles in the foot and the legs.
As the president of Nike, Charlie Denson claims, “We’re excited that women are spending money on athletic footwear, and we think we can get our share. They plan to release new versions of their NIKE FREE range in the autumn.
