It’s like Christmas here at FitnessFootwear.com, because that’s how much we all love Merrell shoes. Owning your first pair of Merrells is almost part of the induction into the company. So as you can see, Merrell is a brand that we’re all very passionate about.

The Merrell Chameleon II Kahuna is one of the best selling summer sandal models for its comfort and support, offering a walking shoe alternative for the warmer months and a great all round sandal for everyday wear.
We have put them to the test with a light hike and a full week’s wear and can vouch for the comfort and support provided. Straight out of the box they are immediately comfortable requiring no breaking in. The taupe pigskin leather upper looks great and is easily combinable with most outfits, maximising the opportunity for everyday wear. The neoprene/spandex lining is comfortable on top of the foot and the elasticity keeps the sandals tight on the feet and they feel secure. An independent heel strap holds them perfectly in place and stops the heel from moving freely preventing the flip-flop noise and from flicking water up your back.
They do not feel too enclosed, and allow for good airflow to keep the feet cool and to prevent sweaty feet whilst offering a good balance of protection with a heel to toe lateral sidewall and a hard plastic guard on the rear strap to give more protection from accidental knocks to both the strap and the feet.
Merrell Kahuna sandals offer superb grip courtesy of a Vibram rubber outsole with an Octogrip™ tread, giving excellent wet and dry traction. The 4.5 mm lugs on the sole will keep you on your feet if the terrain gets a little boggy, although for serious mud your feet are going to get dirty. Two hook and loop straps make for easy adjustment, ideal for a quick tightening before a steep descent.
The feet sit well in the deep-dish contoured footbed, which is curved at the front to provide a little more toe protection. A compression moulded EVA foot frame gives great support, and an air cushioned midsole takes the sting out of hard surfaces. Finished off with a Microban® anti-microbial footbed, the sandals are kept smell free and offer a healthy environment for the feet.
It is difficult to fault the Merrell Kahuna due to the supreme comfort and support and their stylish looks. They will not give you the same level of protection as a walking shoe, so for serious hikes and rough terrain they are not ideally suited however as a walking shoe alternative for summer and for light off-road hikes they are ideal.

Merrell has hired Research Studios to create an exciting design for the first Merrell shop to be opened in France.
The store has been styled to reflect the new range of Merrell Apparel, which embodies Merrell’s philosophy of embracing the outdoors with modern contemporary style clothing.
The new Merrell store combines bleached oak, white lacquer and waxed cement floors to combine elements of natural and urban environments and is separated into three sections: “Kids”, for children’s shoes, “Outventure” for outdoor shoes and apparel and “Fusion” for Merrell urban trainers, accompanied by impressive photographs of leading Merrell products.
Lionel Massias, director of Research Studios Paris, said: “This project creates an entirely new vocabulary for outdoor sportswear brands. With its clean lines and modern interior it revolutionises the image that people have of outdoor sportswear retail.”
Following the recent opening of Merrell’s San Francisco’s Union Square district flag ship store measuring. 2,400 square feet, the high street presence of Merrell outdoors is rapidly growing.

Merrell has announced it is to join forces with OrthoLite to ensure that proprietary insoles are incorporated into over 100 different types of shoes it offers.
These insoles are expected to raise the standards of comfort and performance offered by Merrell and its range of shoes.
A new line of aftermarket insoles are also going to be developed in line with the Ortholite technology to offer customers additional comfort.
Yahn Lebo, strategic business unit manager for Outventure, Merrell, said: “When looking for the best way to provide customers with a high-quality insole, the decision to partner with OrthoLite was easy.”
He added that no other insoles are available which provide the balance of anti-odour properties, breathability, moisture wicking and long-lasting comfort offered by this new development.
Fans of Merrell will be able to easily identify styles that offer OrthoLite comfort by looking for the logo on the shoe’s insole.

A voluntary emergency agency is calling for hill walkers and hikers to take greater care when embarking out during the winter months – by using the correct footwear.
The appeal comes after increasing numbers of ramblers are stretching the resources of Mountain Rescue England & Wales by embarking on trips without due preparation.
Suitbale footwear from Merrell for instance could be used to remedy the problem which has caused some walkers to have to be rescued by the emergency services.
Speaking to the BBC, a volunteer with the Rossendale and Pendle team in Lancashire, Andy Simpson, said he remembers a climber who was found on the top of Snowdon in Wales wearing a pair of slippers.
“He must have been about 60 and he was wearing a jumper that looked like his mum had knitted, a pair of trousers and his slippers,” he said.
“I guess he must have thought his slippers were the most comfortable thing he had. Luckily for him, he didn’t come to any harm,” concluded Mr Simpson.

Liam Mc Cough, contestant in Big Brother eight, is to strap on his running shoes as he limbers up for the London Marathon in April.
The reality television star is set to run the event ain aid of the MS Society, the UK’s most common disabling neurological disorder which his mother suffers from.
Liam said one of the motivations behind entering the charity event is “to give something back” and increase awareness of the charity’s work.
His mother’s illness had also been one of the factors behind him entering Big Brother in the eighth series of the controversial reality tv show.
“I went into the Big Brother house for the experience and I knew it would be great fun, but I also wanted to give my mam the chance to watch me every day,” he said.
Liam concluded: “She spends most of her time in bed because of her MS and I thought that if I was on the TV she could keep an eye on me!”

Darts legend Bobby George put down his arrows and laced up his running shoes in a charity supermarket trolley dash.
Mr George raised over £2,000 this week when he took part in the stunt to raise money for Sport Relief, reports the Norwich Evening News.
“I always like to try something different and I did – I wrecked the whole shop. It was good fun, normally you’d get chucked out for doing something like that,” he told the paper.
The two-time News of the World Darts Championship winner also said he would be joining other runners for the Sport Relief mile run in Ipswich on March 16th.
Mr George’s trolley dash took place at the Sainsbury’s Pound Lane store, which told the paper it was happy it could make a contribution to the charity.
Sport Relief will see thousands, included celebrities such as Fearne Cotton and Davina McCall, take part in events across the country.

Having a moderate level of cardiovascular fitness can significantly reduce the chances of having a stroke, a study presented to the American Stroke Association suggests.
“Fitness has a protective effect regardless of the presence or absences of other stroke risk factors,” says Steven Hooker PhD, the study’s lead author.
The findings reveal that a low-to-medium level of aerobic fitness would be enough to lower the chance of stroke, which gives a good reason to go running in a new pair of Merrell running shoes.
Over 60,000 people were analysed in the study, and were followed for an average of eighteen years.
Stroke is the third most common cause of death in England and Wales, with an estimated 150,000 people suffering one each year in the UK, according to the Stroke Association.
